MIDLANDS TAX JOBS BOOSTED BY NICS HOLIDAY |

24/08/11

Ministers have urged new businesses located in the East Midlands to take advantage of tax breaks currently being offered by the Treasury.

According to Treasury minister David Gauke, firms in the region could be entitled to a refund of their employees' national insurance contribution (NICs) if they meet certain criteria.

The NICs holiday scheme is designed to encourage the creation of more private sector jobs and gives businesses set up since June 22nd last year up to £5,000 off NICs contributions for its first ten employees in its first year of operation.

Around 552 businesses are already taking advantage of the tax holiday.

Mr Gauke told people in tax jobs: "The scheme is quick and easy to apply for and can give an instant boost to new businesses, but there are hundreds in the East Midlands that could be missing out on up to £50,000.

"I'd encourage all new businesses and their advisers to find out more."

The lower earnings limit for NIC contributions in 2011-12 is £102, according to HM Revenue and Customs.
